A Note on Family, Balance, and Perspective

Hey fam,

Hope the year is off to a great start for you. January always brings a mix of fresh energy and reflection, and this one has been no different for me. Between the holidays, the season rolling along, and some exciting projects on the way, I'm feeling grateful and focused heading into this next chapter.

The holidays were a good reminder of how important it is to slow down when you can. Spending time with family, being present with the kids, and just enjoying those moments together never gets old.

The season can move fast, so those pockets of time where you can unplug, laugh, and just be home mean everything. I'm thankful for the chance to recharge with my people before jumping back into the grind.

A New Year Mindset

I got a great question from one of you about balance, and honestly, it’s something I think about a lot.

Balance is one of those subjective terms—it means something different to everybody. For me, balance is less about managing the literal seasons of the year—winter, spring, summer, fall—and more about navigating the seasons of my life.

As you can imagine, the NBA season can be intense. From training camp to the Playoffs, it’s a grind. But the challenge isn’t just my schedule—it’s trying to balance everything with Ayesha’s busy schedule and our kids’ activities too. Some days, it feels like we’re all running at full speed, and the demands are overwhelming. There are definitely pockets of time where it’s hard to keep up. But I always remind myself that being busy is a blessing.

Monty Williams once said, “These are get tos, not have tos,” and that really resonated with me. I always try to remember that I get to do this. I get to play the game I love. I get to take care of my family. I get to be part of a team. I get to use my platform in ways that can hopefully make a positive impact.

At times, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But it’s important to step back and reframe the way I view everything. The balance isn’t always about finding equal time for everything—it’s about maintaining perspective. Even when life feels chaotic, I remind myself that I’m blessed with the opportunity to be where I am.

Thanks for the question, and for following along.

Until next time,

Stephen
